We are a group of data enthusiasts committed to bridging the data divide. We are particularly interested in data for and about the global south.
This data portal is under construction and will be launched in the 1st quarter of 2025. In the meantime, please get in touch to join or support this collective.
The concept of the collective was ideated by two data and development practitioners, Dr Ruth Samson and Dr Carina Kabajunga.
The scarcity of reliable and comprehensive digitised data from the Global South presents a significant challenge for developing countries as well as the entities operating in these countries, impeding their ability to make data-evidenced decisions and drive sustainable economic growth.
This dearth of data not only exacerbates existing inequalities but also hinders effective operations, planning and forecasting at national levels and in the corporate or private sector. The dearth of data applies in various scenarios: where the data simply does not exist, the data exists in silos or in formats that make accessibility and usability difficult, or the data is not of sufficiently good quality.
To make available for reuse all data collected as part of research on the global south.
To improve global availability on data on and about the global south.
To harness the skills and capabilitiies of data practitioners to improve data outcomes in the global south.
To encourage corporates and other private sector actors to donate data for the global good.
To improve reporting on development data from the global south,
